Imagine being forced to leave the home you have been living in for the past 12 years because of false accusations. Recently we met a refugee family of 6 in this situation. Mom is an educated woman, but for now, she needs to stay home and care for her children. Dad had a senior marketing position. He has realized it seems implausible he will be able to find a similar job here in Canada. They are grateful for the opportunity to live in Canada and for the support they receive; however, the $831 allocated for `shelter' is not nearly enough and means they need to use the support for `basic needs' to cover the shortfall. Thankfully, they were connected to us, and we have been able to respond. Through our network of supporters, we have been able to find them winter clothing for their kids, a stroller and other necessities for their youngest. They have also registered to receive fresh, healthy food from our market and to our Christmas Wonders and Beyond Program. Hopefully, they will spend Christmas with renewed hope and an increased sense of belonging to Oakville.
