Santa in Oakville for Pet Pics On Saturday, Dec. 16, The D og Rescuers Inc. are com ing to Oakville for Pet Pics w ith Santa, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m ., to raise m oney for rescue dogs in need at Back to the Bone, 380 Dundas St. E., Oakville. The D og Rescuers Inc. is a volunteer run orga nization that w orks w ith more than 25 shelters, pounds and hum ane societies on a provincial level, as w ell as w orking w ith m em bers of the public to re-home abused and neglected dogs. The group, m ost recently know n as the or ganization w h o rescued Cupid the two-legged dog, takes in a number of challenging medical cases and funds raised at events like this are used to help offset the costs of rehabilitating and re-hom ing dogs in need o f a second chance at life. Pet Pics with Santa is a popular fundraiser for the all-breed dog rescue and raises funds to help offset the costs of veterinary care. "This is truly one of our favourite fundrais ing events," said Joan Znidarec, president and co-founder for The D og Rescuers Inc., in a press release "N ot only is it a lot of fun seeing all of the dogs interact w ith Santa, but it' s a great way for our supporters and the Oakville com m unity to com e out and make a difference in the life of a rescue dog." Registered as a non-profit organization, The D og Rescuers Inc. does not qualify for govern m ent grants or assistance, and relies heavily on fundraising events and donations. "Every cent raised helps to save a life," said Znidarec. "W hat better w ay to get into the holi day spirit than to sh ow your support for a dog in need. Our team is made up entirely of vol unteers, so everything w e raise goes back to the dogs." PIC dates and details will be advertised as the study progresses. Once the study is complete, an Environmental Study Report (ESR) will be prepared and available for public review and comment. The Town of Oakville has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) to assess flood risks along Munn's Creek within the study limits as noted above. The focus of this study will be to understand these risks and then establish approaches to mitigate them. This study builds on the 2008 "Town-wide Flood Prioritization Study Review," by undertaking a more detailed study of creek channel reaches with floodprone sites in an effort to determine the most viable and responsible mitigation options. The Process The town appreciates your feedback and encourages you to get involved. A key component of the study is consultation with interested stakeholders, Indigenous groups, the public, landowners and regulatory agencies. You are encouraged to provide your comments so that they may be considered in the study.
