The Town of Oakville is hosting three open houses concerning major upcoming infrastructure projects including the Lakeshore Road East Reconstruction and Streetscape Project; the Former Hospital Site park project; and the Lakeshore Road West improvements project. · An open house examining the design of the proposed park at the Former Hospital Site Project will be held Tuesday, Nov. 28 from 6-7:30 p.m. in Town Hall's Bronte/Palermo Room. It will be a chance to weigh in on options for the neighbourhood park at 327 Reynolds St., site. The park will be 0.6 hectacres and situated on the north side of a new community centre. The Parks and Open Space staff have been working with a landscape architectural firm and the community centre architect on design options. Recreation and Culture staff will also be present to provide an update on the progress of the design of the community centre. · An open house on Lakeshore Road West improvements from Mississaga Street to Dorval Drive will be held Wednesday, Nov. 29, 6-8 p.m., at the Sir John Colborne Recreation Centre for Seniors, 1565 Old Lakeshore Rd., W. It will be a chance to see design options, provide feedback and learn about the next steps. Town staff have been tasked with accessing the current and future traffic conditions along this stretch of roadway to identify opportunities to improve road user safety and promote active transportation, such as walking and cycling. · The open house concerning the Lakeshore Road East Reconstruction and Streetscape Town open houses coming up Project will take place Thursday, Dec. 7, 4-8 p.m. in the South Atrium of Oakville's Town Hall. The project will impact Lakeshore Road from Navy Street to Allan Street. With Lakeshore Road East approaching the end of its lifespan and needing major reconstruction, the Town did research and public consultation to identify opportunities to improve traffic, beautify streets and improve pedestrian/cycle ways in the downtown. Those who attend the open house will have the opportunity to learn about: · Final design of vehicle lanes, on-street parking, intersections, sidewalks and boulevard areas · Proposed placement of the council approved lighting and traditional street furnishings including streetlight poles, benches, bollards and bike rings · Placement of granite curbs and pavers · Street tree planting locations · Intersection treatments including pedestrian crossings · The business case for replacing existing streetlight poles · Options and a recommendation for flexible (curbless) street design. Phase 1 of the reconstruction project impacting Lakeshore Road between Navy and Dunn streets is expected in spring to fall 2019.
