Wednesday, October 20, 1999 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER B5 Arts Council Film Festival presents The Winslow Boy The Oakville Arts Council Wednesday Film Festival presents a screen ing of David Mamet's award winning film The Winslow Boy tonight. Based on a true story of 14-year-old Ronnie Winslow, a young cadet accused of stealing a five shilling postal note who is dismissed from Naval College. Set in pre-WWI, this film follows the Winslow family's efforts to clear their son's name, the court case that ensues and the national attention it received. Brilliant performances by Nigel hawthome, jeremy Northam, Rebecca Pidgeon, Gemma Jones and Guy Edwards. The Wednesday Film Festival screenings take place every Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Famous Players Cinemas in the Oakville Town Centre I at Dorval drive and the QEW. Tickets are available at the door starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for non-members and $6 for members of the Oakville Arts Council, Oakville Centre Big Ticket, Oakville Galleries, Friends of the Library, and the Oakville Museum. Textile artist's show & sale Textile artist Christel Wille is holding her ninth annual Open House Show & Sale at her home studio, 1472 Constance Dr., this Friday to Sunday The show and sale runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wille has been weaving since 1976 and graduated from the Ontario Handweavers and Spinners Master Weaving program (with honours) in 1990. While she has experi mented and produced work in all textile media, including large scale tapestry commissions, Wille's business centres around the creation of hand-dyed, handwoven silk and chenille scarves. Produced under the name CW Textile Design, these scarves are available through her studio, at the One of a Kind Canadian Craft Show & Sale and at selected retail outlets in the GTA. If Oakville Galleries raises $5,000 through this new fundrais ing initiative, the Walter and Duncan Gordon Foundation will provide an additional $5,000.
