Vowingsupport for small business continued from p.6 Our economic momentum should continue into 2 0 1 8 as additional infrastructure projects, the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Econom ic and Trade Agreement (CETA), and the international investment hub gain trac tion. Our government understands the funda mental role that small businesses play in our economy. We will continue to support their growth by assisting expansion into new mar kets, promoting the tourism industry, and mentoring young entrepreneurs. By lowering the tax rate for small businesses from 11 per cent in 2 0 1 5 to nine per cent in 2 0 1 9 , we are working to provide them with an opportunity to succeed. Supporting workers and their families is a key priority. Employment news is positive, with 5 0 0 ,0 0 0 jobs having been created since October 2015 and the government providing better support and training for job seekers. To help Canadians balance work and family life, we recently announced several changes to the Employment Insurance program. Family caregivers and new parents will have access to new and expanded benefits. This is how the federal government is maxi mizing workforce participation while helping Canadians to care for their families. Canadians of all generations have benefited from legislation introduced by our federal government. By expanding the Canada Pension Plan, we are helping Canadians achieve their goal of a secure and stable retirement. We've helped countless seniors by restoring the age of eligibility from 67 to 65 for Old Age Security and the Guaranteed Income Supple ment (GIS), and increasing the GIS for vulner able seniors. More than 135,000 families have benefitted from our affordable housing initiatives such as rent allowances, repairs, and new builds. We've made significant investments in home care, communitybased care, and mental health care to support Canadians when they need it most. The federal government has been very pro ductive in the last two years. I'm proud and pleased to see the many positive changes that have resulted from our legislative efforts. While we've made tremendous progress, we know that there is more to be done to help Canadians succeed and prosper.
