The deceased was only thirty years of age, and a bright promising woman, who. up to last fall gave evi- dence of a long and useful life. A few months ago she was attacked with something of the nature of fever, which afiected her heart, and of which she died so suddenly, leaving a young husband and a little girl three years old to mourn her early departure. Up to the moment of death, Mrs. Anderson. though not feeling altogether well, was going about her work in the usual way. when suddenly the summons came and she expired almost immediately. Her parents here, Mr. and Mrs. Davis, mourn the loss of their daugh- ter very much, and in their trouble have the sympathy of their wide circle oi friends. Mr. Anderson is a nephew of Mr. W. A. Anderson. of] this town, and was married only fivel years ago. We extend our sympathy in the hour of trouble. 7" We have also to chronicle the death l of Margaret Ritchie beloved wife of tie William Weir, of Glenelg, which oc '. curred on Tuesday lest utter a pro- tracted illness which latterly devel- oped into consumption, that most 1 fetal of all diseues. The deceased T led: was about thixty nix you: 01:: It was, therefore, expected that a rare treat was in store, and from the rapt attention and the unmistakeable manifestations of approval, whice brought fourth an encore after every number, gives full assurance that all were satisfied. Those who under- standjthe Gaelic say she was more at home in that language than in English. and from the applause rendered when she sang in what is evidently her mother tongue, there was a large number present who understand both languages. ” Rule Britannia.” ”The Hundred Pipers," But Miss Maclachlan was the draw- iig card of the evening. She has long; been regarded as the Scottish Prima Dona, and since landing on this side of the Atlantic a few weeks ago, her every appearance in public has met with .the higheSt commenda- tion. The Toronto press is unquali- fied in praise of her ability as a Scottish Vocalist. “ Whistle and I’ll come to yoh m'y Lad,” and "Home Sweet Home,” were indescribably grand selections. The house was well filled. every seat, we believe, being taken at fifty cents each. Mr. George Binnie acted as chair- man in the absence of Dr. Jamieson, who was unable to be present. 111-. Buchanan, a high class musician and musical composer, just from Scotland, is making his tour through some of the principal towns and cities of the American Continent, in company with Mrs. Buchanan, Who Still goes by her maiden name of Miss Jessie N. Maclachlan. The ac- companiments were all played by Mr. Buchanan, and these, together with the rendering of some original selec- tions of his own composing, gave sufficient evidence of high musical ability, and capt1vated the music loving portion of the audience. Piper Murray possesses a fine stage appearance, is a fine manipulator of the pxpes, and an excellent Scottish dancer. The Sword dance and Sailors’ Hornpipe being his best. The entertainment on Friday night last was good in every part. 'vVith such talent as Messrs. Fax, Buchan- an, Piper Murray and the world renouned Scottish Prima Donna, Miss Maclachlan, it could not have been otherwise. Mr Fax is too well known through the length and breadth of the Dominion to need any comment. His selections are always mirthful, but he never forgets to be a gentleman, and herein lies one great source of strength. The Sons of Scatland are noted for getting up good concerts. They Spare nothing in getting the best talent. and so successful have they been that they have now a. firm hold on the public confidence, and are al- ways sure of getting a. good house. Rev. Mr. Farr, of Atwood, came home last week with the intention of remaining some time, as he is not well. being recently troubled, we understand, with an attack of pleur- isy. Since he had the typhoid fever he has not recovered his usual vim. and has wisely decided on taking a. rest. Mr. Charlie Lewis, of Mt. Forest. attended the carnival Thursday last. Miss Herringer and S. and J. Her- ringer, of Mt. Forest, attended the carnival Thursday evening. PERSONAL MENTION. Durham, Ont, Thursday, February 14th, 1901. SCOTTISH CON CERT HRS. WI. WEIR. MRS. ANDERSON. OBITUARIES. ~~-00o All to can, an. cash if“ on 01: tho-nay 0min The voluntary dedication of any talent to the Masters service must be slwsys pleasing to Him. And the knowledge thst your services are fully given for His csnse, is the high- est recompense you can have for such services. - It is not therefore for its intrinsic value thut this ofierinz is made, but on o token of appreciation of your work for the Christ and His church. Signed on behalf of the congrogg. DEAR Miss Batmanâ€"The members of the congregation of Christ church, Allan Bark, ask your acceptance of the accompanan “Ladies Dressing Case ” as a slight token of the esteem in which you are personally held by them, and also as a little tribute to the faithfulness which you have shown in fulfilling the position of organist for the church and Sunday School. Christ Church, Allan Park. To M188 8. Bureau. Organist. On Sabath 3rd inst. a memorial service was held in the Methodist Church here in honor of our departed Sovereign. The Church was taste- fully draped in purple and black. The service was solemn and impress- ive, flags floated at half-mast. during the vieek. The Rev. D. L. Campbell, of Amos Church, Dromore, will occmtpy the Methodist pulpit of this village next Sabbath morning. Grippe has again made its appear- ance in our village. Quite a number are and have been laid up with it. l The annual meeting of the Egre- lmont Creamery Co, was held in the {Hall about a fortnight ago and was ‘a decided success. The directors secured the services of Mr. Arch. Smith, government instructor of creameries, who delivered a very ex- cellent address on ‘How to man- age Cream so as to Secure: the Best Results. ” The address wrl of such a nature that there is no doubt but that many who have heretofore not understood the secret of keeping cream will profit-thereby. After the close of the address the business of the annual meeting of the stockhold- holders was proceeded with. The Secretary gave a detailed statement of the operations of the factors' for the season of 1900. We appenda brief outline for the benefit of pat rons who were not present. The total marks for the season was 182577 pounds which was sold for a tatal of $35,716.65. The amount paid patrons from sales alone was $31,334.81. The cost of manufacturing was $4,381.84. The Company realized $261.35 from non-share fees and the sale of the buttermilk realized $241.91. The average selling price was “9.56 per hundred pounds so that the patrons realized during the season $17.16 per hundred pounds. All patrons re- ceive a dividend of 64 per 100 pounds from the sale of buttermilk and in addition each shareholder received a dividend of 6 per cent on paid up stock. The directors are busily en- gaged at present in putting the plant in shape for next season’s Operations. The contract of manufacturing has again been let to Messrs. 'I‘hair and Cameron. The genial countenance of Miss Maud Burrows is again brightening the home of her parents after a year’s absence in Chicago; W. '1‘. Brown and wife are spend- ing a. few days this week with the latter’s brother at Eden Mills. We understand that. the Rev. J. M. Miller ha‘s resigned his charge here and purposes removing in the near future. On Monday evening of last week Mr. Lorne McAnulty met with a rather serious accident which cost him the loss of the first and second fingers and part of the third also a serious injured thumb. He simply called in to see the men at work in the saw mill when his left hand came in contact with the edging saw with the above result. Dr. Brown dressed the wounded hand which is now pro- gressing favorably. Mr. Robert Watson, of Normauby, an old gentleman of eighty-five year-.- of age died last week at the home of his daughter.
