Quarterly Boards of the “ml At a meeting of the officials of the Methodisc church held on Monday evening of last week the following IGSOIUtIOD was adopted and later pre- sen-ted to 'Mr. Barnhouse who is leavingthispluce: To WILLIAM BARNHOUSE ESQ; Dear Sir and Brahmaâ€""We have learned with sincgfe regre‘t that you Henry Dennet gave an enjoyable little party on Wednesday evening so that Miss Malinda might bid her friends a pleasant goodbye before leaving for Dakota. She went. on Friday by MW of Hanover. From a' photo we received from a lumber camp of a load of sawlogs which contains 8,001) feet and num bars 55 logs we would judge sleigh- ing has been better in Minnesom than here this winter. James Tucker invested in a pure bred Durham bull last week from the herd of Wm. Smith. east of the Town of Durham, whose herd is now as near the real Durham as one can poe- eibly get them. Samuel Queen had a social gather- ing at his home on Friday night and an enjoyable time was spent. It is almosta yearly event with him and is looked forward to with considerable pleasure. The Hillisz family moved on Tues- day to the farm they bought from R Cochrane on the front line We al- ways said they would go to the front some day even though they were backward on the start. Lasr. Thursday night as James Mc- Meeken wasgoing from his son Wil- lie’s to his own place he slipped on ice at the end of a. building and dis locasod the hip joint Dr. Brown replaced it and he is now compara- tively easy but will nor. be about {or some weeks. Mr. Henry Wilkinson’s spirited team all alone and in a reckless way visited this line one day last, week. They took fright at a dog in Varney and ran away. I wrong and believed the candidate 3 was merely seeking admittance to j the Order to prepare a snug thousand ldollars for the support of his wife 'land family in the event of him being so completely buried in the coming contest as to be never heard of again. Anyway the point they object to is a small thing in the matter and it is . hard to get the exact facts in sensa- tional cases, and the fact of Henry Miller becoming a Scotchman at the present time has certainly caused a great sensation. This is the way the 1 general public believe the afiair to be land it is doubtful if the contrary gapinion can be demonstrated with any degree of certainty. The initia- tion took place on February 27th in a room of the Knapp House and all the ‘° Scotch ” there was in the candidate was what he got after entering the gbuilding. On the strength of it he ' declared he was aScotchman and that [the whirling around the room the 3 goat gave him had made him dizzy l and almost blind. Now that the af- i fair is beginning to be discussed we lwish it to be distinctly understood fthat from the beginning we did not wish to intimate that Scotchmen are anxious to claim connection with Mr. Miller, but that at present he is determined to claim relationship with them. and if the individual who tired into us lasr. week would only write his own name and place of living; as plainly in next week’s Review as he did ours in the last issue we would. promise: to try a shot at him. but‘ only on condition that we think tol take a sigh: on such an object would!" not cause Ilm‘t‘mm prostration as al loolc at a snake in tlm grass so alien l, does. ' i l l _ss__,----_ to a little detail in our report of can- didate Miller becoming a Scotchman. and that he was not balloted for. We idon’t know who the writer is. or- ; what he is. He claims to be a Scotch. man. but as he is afraid to tell his name we can safely venture to say lhe is nothing of the kind. or if he is 1he is not much like the ones’we have been used to meeting all of whom are fearless above board fellows. Some from adistance tell us that the head Organizer has power to omit balloting land other preliminaries in doubtful leases. and like all true Britons give} Ethe man on triu’the benefit of the doubt. They thought maybe he had been present and advantage taken of fthe occasion. but all are unanimous i u l (Intended for last. week.) Corner Concerns. Flesherton. MONEY at. 457°. MacKay Dunn. Sheppard drove to the city last week Mr, S. Colquett moved from OSprey on Monday to his recently purchased residence here. The lifting of the two weeks rail- way blockade by the arrival of a train on Sunday evening was a relief much appreciated by our citizens gen- erally. Mr. M. K. Richardson M. P. left by the first train on Monday for his Parliamentary duties at Ottawa. Postmaster Sproule of this place has always been a most obliging ofli- cial. but if possidle he has gone one better to accomodate the public dur- ing the days of storm and irregular mails we have just passed through. Mr. and Mrs. McKee and family have many relatives and friends in this community to sympathize with them in their sudden berevement. ‘ .f \Irs. Frost are sad. "Only last July she became the bride of Mr. A. The Owen Sound Times of Friday lawn contained the following sad news respecting a young women well known Th this place and vicinity hav- lug been born and raised on the 4th line Artemesia where her parents for many years resided. “On Tuesday evening” says the times.“Mrs. A. A. The accident happened at * the home of her daughter Mrs. Wm. Heslop in the valley with whom she was visiting and where she is now underithe doctor’s care Sunday last Was Superanuation Fund day in the Methodsit church and we understand the contributions were very satisfactory. The pastor’s theme in the evening was family reli-j gin” based on Duet U. 4 8 and the: sermon was one which should awak- en thought and interest in that sub- ject. Communion service was held in the Baptist church on Sabbath morning last and in the Presbyterian church in the afternoon. Rev. J. S. I. Wil- son preached at the preparatory ser- vice in the latter church on Friday and his apprOpriate and edifying ser- mon was much appreciated. Mr. and Mrs. Barnhouse entertain- ‘mi about thirty of their friends at a farewell party given at their home here on Wednesday evening of last week and on Friday evening in like manner entertained the Methodist church choir and the public school stafl. Both evenings were very en- joyably spent though there was re. gret at the early departure of the genial host and hostess. Mr. R.
