The let annual Irish Lake picnic held in Arrowsmith’s picturesque grove on June 10th was indeed a suc- cess The morning dawned gloriouS‘ ly fine, no more ideal weather could be desired and dense crowds could be seen wending their way from all dir- ections to the scene of enjoyment. McDonald Bros, of Priceville furn- ished excellent music for the occasion. they also gave some very fine selec- tions on the Highland pipes. which was much appreciated. The tables were laden with choice eatahles which displayed to perfection the culinary skill of the ladies, and artistically arranged with beautiful boquets. A quantity of numbered tickets were sold by Misses A. Meazz’ner, N. McAsey and C.'Morrison, for which prizes were given, Mr. Frank Sullivan holding the lucky ticket for methinks the handsomest prize in the lot, Rev. Father Hauck’s photo framed. Rev. Father Cm y and the Misses Coty, of Dundalk, attend- ed the picnic. Rev. Father I-lauck was brimful of energy ever courteous to his guests and to his indefatigable exertions the phenomenal success of the picnic is largely due. The danc- ing platform was well patronized and as the shades of evening drew near the large crcwd dispersed for their many homes after spending a very pleasant. day and enjoying the distinction of being at the QISt An- nual Irish Lake Picnic. The purchase of one by Artemesia council causes much dissatisfaction in somequarters Mr. Sidney Blakeston, a former resident, who is now in British Columbia, had quite a narrow escape from a bear by which he was chased up a tree, but having the prudence to carry his axe up with him, Mr Bruin was overcome, and Sid. got (if safe. though we believe he will ad- mit he was a little scared. Your Pomona correspondent was poaching .in our Territory 3. short time ago. We do not feel at all obliged to him. Although we know him to be a great authority on res- surrectious. We do not think much of his myahological knowledge. His reference to Morpheus whom he calls the God of Dreams, is away out. We think that as he was writing about an Irishman that ht must have got mixed and meant Murphy. Per- haps he can explain. Then what does he mean by Henery. We iail to find this word in any dictionary. He is evidently trying to be funny but he had better try and learn to spell. He may have been laboring under an over dose of Mother Seigels Syrup or his Patent Braces may have fitted too tight and caused a slight almrration in his mind by impeding the circulation. Stick to Syrup. Braces and Farming and advise your assistant to help his neighbours to milk cows and build pig pens. you will both succeed better at that than trying to be clever at your neighbors expense. A new road machine was at work in our vicinity last Saturday. This may be quite an improvement on the old system but in face of hard times and scarcity of work we fail to see why the council of Artemesia purchased it. They may fini out when election time comes round again that the poor man that loses his days work through the purchase of the machine, has a vote and knows how to use it. Progression is a good thing but. too much machineryfs not wanted here at present. What we would like to know ? \Vhat did Bicyclist McArthur want with 1160 loot pole.
