Photo by Peter C. McCusker Going indoors By Kathy Yanchus SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER What has 1,456 legs and is grow ing by leaps and bounds every sea son? Those numerous limbs belong to the 728 participants in the Oakville Soccer Club's winter soccer league and there are another 330 pairs of legs on the waiting list. The numbers are overwhelming. "It's twice the demand of the pre vious year," commented Peter Kovacs, the club's new business manager, brought on board to take over administrative duties from a core of overworked volunteers. "Last year, we had two Saturdays of registration and the numbers were big but not taxing on the volunteers. This year, after the first session we were completely booked." The indoor soccer is taking place at the two ClubLink Domes on the North Service Road. It's the brainchild of Air Athletics, now a major tenant of the domes, which are owned by ClubLink (which also owns Glen Abbey Golf (See `O S C page D6) Mike Tarantino (#11) and Mike Porter (#18) of the Oakville Blades have the heat on the Mississauga goalie Friday nighL Blades won this game 7-4, but unfortu nately had the heat applied to them on the next two road stops, losing 6-4 in Georgetown and 5-2 in Buffalo. Road blues for Blades By Matt Nimmo SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER The Oakville Blades turned the tables last Friday night with a 7-4 victory over the Mississauga Chargers in Junior A hockey action. Unfortunately they couldn't keep up the m om entum on the road, losing 6-4 in Georgetown on Saturday night, the final goal into an empty net, and then 5-2 in Buffalo on Monday night. Their weekend got off to a good start Friday night. (See 'Blades' page D5) No, the soccer season is not over, it's just gone indoors.
