Finance PLU S Jayden's Run on Oct. 1 is a fundraiser to benefit ROCK The third annual Jayden's Run takes place Sunday, Oct. 1. Jayden's Run was first organized in 2015 to help support Jayden Elphage. Jayden was born 2 7 weeks premature and weighed two pounds, says his father John, in a previous interview with the Oakville Beaver. Jayden is multi-challenged, having been diagnosed with autism, cerebral palsy and hearing loss. He wears a hearing aid in his left ear and has a cochlear implant in his right. Living with a variety of health challenges often left Jayden feeling like an outsider, except on a racetrack where the Oakville youth became one of karting' s bright lights. His father says there was an almost magical transformation in Jayden since taking a whirl on a rented Go-Kart at Goodwood Kartways in Stouffville num erous years ago. He not only competes on a level playing feld , but also has excelled. "As a result of his difficulties, his dream is just to be a regular kid, but hockey, soccer and baseball are all out of the question," John said. "But Jayden eats, breathes and sleeps cars." Karting is an expensive sport. To keep Jayden' s dream alive and to allow him to continue doing what he loves, Jayden' s Run is taking place again this year on Oct. 1 with proceeds raised from this event supporting Jayden and ROCK's (Reach Out Centre for Kids) Youth Aiding Youth program. Jayden's Run is organized through YOUR HEALTH Wellness Centre, 1158 W inston Churchill Blvd. Oakville, where Jayden has also received treatment. Registration takes place at 9 a.m. with the run/walk beginning at 9 :3 0 a.m. Participants can complete a fv e kilometre run or two kilometre walk along Avonhead Ridge trail. There is a runner' s stretch and mini run for kids. The suggested donation is $ 4 0 for adults and $ 2 0 for children. The event includes swag bags, food and prizes.
