World Suicide Prevention Day forum Residents interested in helping those who are struggling are invited to attend a suicide prevention discussion to mark World Suicide Prevention Day. The Halton Suicide Prevention Coalition will host Dr. Ian Dawe on Monday, Sept. 11. Dawe is the program chief and medical director of mental health at Trillium Health Partners. He will hold a presentation on suicide prevention, followed by a panel discussion on the same topic. The event runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School, 2420 Sixth Line. This year marks the 15th World Suicide Prevention Day, an initiative of the International Association for Suicide Prevention, which has been endorsed by the World Health Organization. World Suicide Prevention Day takes place each year on Sept. 10 and this year's theme is "Take a minute, change a life." During the Wellspring Peloton Challenge, a group of cyclists and dedicated volunteers will embark on an eight-day, 24-hour cycling relay event to Miami, Fla., in support of Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation. The Wellspring Peloton Experience, a oneday 117 km cycling event through southern Ontario, is also launching that day. Guests can enjoy breakfast, a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, a performance from the Four Colours Drum Circle and then help send off the riders. Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation is a network of community-based support centres offering professionally-led programs and services that meet the emotional, social, practical and restorative needs of people living with cancer, as well as for those who care for them. Wellspring charges no fees, and requires no medical referral. Wellspring does not receive any core government funding and primarily relies on donations and corporate sponsorships.
