Sunday, November 7, 1999 Oakville Beaver W eekend 41 G-HAC cross country results The provincial OFSAA track and field championships are on tap this Saturday (Nov. 6) at Centennial Stadium in Oakville. As promised, we bring you, here, the highlights of the combined Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference and Halton track and field championships held at Kelso Conservation Area last week. The overall championship was won by Oakville's Q.E. Park Secondary School followed by St. M ary's (Hamilton) and Oakville's St. Thomas Aquinas, in second and third places, respectively. The overall title, however, is only for boasting rights. Berths to OFSAA are earned on a division al basis (midget, junior and senior) for both boys and girls. The top two teams in each of the divi sions qualify for the provincial OFSAA championships as well as the top three individuals (not on the winning teams). Listed here by division are the top five teams and the top 10 individuals (fol lowed by all Oakville competitors in the top 25). Oct. 30th: Oakville 5 Burlington 3 Burlington opened up with two quick goals. But three unanswered responses set tled things nicely before the visitors tied the match. A third period marker by Scott Tanski, his second of the game, put the Rangers one up for good. Patrick Marsh assured the victory, sliding home a 40-footer, his second of the game. Spencer Metcalfe earned the National Sports player-of-the-game, with the Flippance and Carr player-of-the-game going to David Provost with three assists. Game 2 on Saturday night against the Aurora Panthers proved to be the Hornets finest game to date. Led by Chelsea Clay, the Hornets dominat ed play and skated away with a 3-0 victory. The fired-up Clay peppered the Aurora goal-keep er with countless shots and was rewarded with two textbook-like goals after receiv ing perfect passes from linemate Andrea Browne. Natalie Procyk rounded out the scoring adding a single in the third period to ice the victory. Also col lecting assists were Jenna Tiffin, Tiffani White, Jennifer Alexander and Lindsay Cook. Caroline Davies led the Hornets with a hat trick and an assist, with Alyssa Molfetta adding the fourth goal to go along with her three assists. Jessica Toth had a solid game in the net and was helped by the solid defensive play being stressed by Hornets coach Randy Beaver. In their third game of the season, the Hornets took on Etobicoke and easily outskated them to a 6-1 victory. The scoring was spread across all three lines, with goals by Caroline Davies, Sarah Curry, Melanie Johnson with two, Kayla Bulatovich and Laura Pendlebury.
