Sovereign H ouse is open on Saturdays, Sundays and W ednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. The exhibit runs Aug. 19-20, Aug. 23, Aug. 26-27 and Aug. 30. Duzyk, who specializes in Chinese brush painting, will be doing dem onstra tions o f her work, an ancient art form that dates back to 4000 B.C. She has been doing Chinese brush painting for more than 20 years. In the m id-1980s, she studied under renowned Chinese artists Jeremy Tsai and Baoxing Zhang. Duzyk m oved to Montreal in 1996 and took courses with Yao Kui and also stud ied with Zhenhu Han, m oving back to Oakville in 2001 where she continues tak ing courses. Her paintings have been exhibited in galleries in Quebec and locally, in Oakville, M ississauga and Hamilton. Duzyk was also a finalist at the Oakville Arts Coun cil's inaugural event Stars Among Us, held in 2009. Hattula was born in Finland 1976 and m oved to Canada with her family to Oakville in 2009. She is a self-taught oil painter with a m aster's degree in the textile teacher education program at the Univer sity o f Helsinki. Hattula is now pursuing a full-time ca reer in arts. W orking in oils, her paintings consist m ostly of portraits and hum an representa tions, including a wom anhood series. Hattula said she is starting to create abstract art. Her w ork has been shown in several ex hibitions around the Greater Toronto Area, including the 2017 Grand Opening Show at Ben Navaee Gallery, in Hamilton, and in Van couver at the 2015 Annual International Rep resentational Show, Federation o f Canadian Artists. In 2016, Hattula received a H onourable Mention, Emerging Artist Ju ried Exhibition, Ontario Society o f Artists, Nelson Park Cen tre, Toronto. S u n s h in e w riting n e w m u sic b o o k , d u e o u t by C h ristm as Oakville children's performer, song writer, educator and author Su zanne Brown is writing a new book called Romantic With Joy, which is due out before Christmas. Brown, who is also known as Suzie Sunshine, said the new book is an introduction to the great Romantic-era com posers Antonin Dvorak, Ludw ig van Beethoven and Frederic Chopin. The book is the third in a series to teach children about classical m usic. Brown's first book Baroque With Joy and her second book C lassical With Joy have both garnered Next Generation Indie Book Awards. Brown has been coaching and entertaining people o f all ages, from toddlers to seniors, since the 1970s. She has w orked in children's centres and schools across North America, designing and teaching classes on all things m usic. "No child is left behind," she joked. Brown has also w orked exten sively with the Special Olympics, including writing and singing the theme song The Courage to Shine in 1996. She is currently in discussion with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra to do a show on her w orks and is planning an event with the Oakville Symphony Or chestra.
