It kept the local Leaguel Ontario soccer team in pace with the firstplace Sigma FC, with the Blue Dev ils having a chance to tie Sigma FC for first in points in the Men's West Division standings with a win last night. The Blue Devils came back to de feat Masters FA with only 10 men on the field for the majority of the game, thrilling the home fans at Sheridan College. "To go behind again, and go down to 10 men again, is a chal lenge," head coach, Duncan Wilde said, "but we've done that twice this year and we've been a little braver this year by deciding to still go on and win the game." Masters opened the scoring 12 minutes in when Joey Melo scored, Athletiques' Miller, James enjoy a summer of PBs on the track Two track and field athletes from Oakville live on the same street, Burnamthorpe, and belong to the same club. They've also posted major person al bests in their sport this summer. Taryn Miller, 15, and Jen na James, 14, are members of Oakville' s Athletiques Internation al track club. Miller' s 12.82 seconds for the 80-metre hurdles at the Ontario Legion Championships in Wind sor last month was almost a full second improvement on her pre vious best, 13.71 seconds, and advanced her to a final she never expected to reach, placing fifth. The next day, four more PBs saw her on the podium, as second-best 15-and-under pentathlete in Ontario. The pentathlon is comprised of the 80-metre hurdles, high jump, shotput, long jump and 800m. Seven days later, it was James' turn, as she chopped nine seconds from her previous best of 1:11.81 over 400m , stopping the clock in 1:02.80 for ninth overall at the Mi nor Track Association' s Outdoor Championships in Etobicoke. Coach Bruce Burton was not surprised by the results of either athlete, since practices and pre liminary meets gave him ample indication of their potential. "Although Taryn didn't have the chance to `forge the steel' by com peting in the qualification meets leading to OFSAA, her training was consistent, with improvements at every practice," Burton said. Also competing in Etobicoke was a 12-year-old, Zoe Ironside. She competed in four events at the MTA Championships setting four PBs and coming home with four awards, including a bronze medal for the atom girls triple jump, in which she bettered her previous PB four times to post an 8.67m flight, three centimetres from silver. She also made her debut in long jump, finishing eighth with a PB of 4.24m ; in javelin, finishing fourth at 11.95m; and recording the iden tical distance in discus to finish fifth. Another club competitor, Hagersville' s Breagha Sharpe, 13, won the bronze in senior girls javelin.
