Blakelock High School, has organized a Young Artist Series to showcase the talents of young Ontario musicians. Schuerm er's music teacher at the school says he started the series for two reasons. "One: it's a fund-raising event for Blakelock music; and two: it features young artists from across Ontario, from Chatham to Scarbor ough" says Lynda Eady. The second concert in this series will be featured tomorrow (Saturday) at 8:15 p.m. in the Salvation Army hall across the street from Blakelock. This particular concert will feature a num ber o f fine young musicians including Schuermer on flute and piano, Daniel Hambleton on cello, Chris Kapoor on flute, Sean G ates and Catherine M agowan on bassoon and Michael Falikowski on clarinet. "They are going to be playing the music o f Debussy, Faure, Griffes and M ozart," says Eady, adding that Schuermer wants to study music at university next year. "Some o f these kids are already in university as music majors. So, it gives them a chance to perform, and it gives Alex (Schuer mer) the exposure as well. It is really good for him to play in front o f an audience. And, o f course, it raises money for the music department, too. Some of our instruments are really old." Tickets for Saturday's concert are $5 at the door. The next concert in the Young Artist Series is planned for January.
