O T M H AuxiliaryamouncesIsobel W irm ettBursaryFundfor Y outh At its 50th anniversary celebration earlier in the fall, the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital Auxiliary has announced the Isobel Winnett Bursary Fund, in honour of its longest serving member. Winnett joined the auxiliary shortly after OTMH opened at its present site on Reynolds Street in 1950, and was one of the first volunteers in the sewing groups. She served as president twice, and is an hon orary member of the OTMH Charitable Corporation. The Fund will provide a $1,000 annual post-sec ondary school education bursary to an OTMH youth volunteer. In making the announcement, OTMH Auxiliary president Carol Kirkwood described Winnett as "gen tile but indomitable, caring, gracious, welcoming and responsible," and as "someone very special." Former hospital administrator Joy Parsons described Winnett as "small but mighty." "If you are really interested in an organization," Winnett once said, "then it makes sense to contribute what you can to ensure that it will continue even after you are gone." Both she and her husband, George Winnett, have made provisions for OTMH in their Wills, thus becom ing OTMH Friends of Tomorrow, Kirkwood told the 50th anniversary afternoon tea held at OTMH. "While our gratitude and admiration have been shared with Isobel many times over the years, we believe the occasion of her 50th anniversary with the auxiliary is deserving of special and lasting recogni tion," Kirkwood said. "It is our hope that the Isobel Winnett Bursary Fund and its recipients in years to come will be infinitely representative of the wisdom, kindness, loyalty and humility of the special person in whose honour it was established." Patricia Ross, former president of the OTMH Auxiliary, pours tea for Isobel Winnett and Carol Kirkwood (rear), president, at its 50th Anniversary Tea. Photo by Peter C. McCusker Y2K?
