Last year the tournament raised $50,000, says Darryl Sittler, former captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs and member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, w ho is participating in the tournament again this year to raise m oney for young adults with D ow n syndrome and help create awareness about the struggle they face, finding a place in society "We hope to sell the tournament out and raise as m uch as m oney as w e can," says Sittler, w ho has a family connection w ith D ow n syndrome, so h e' s aware of how parents of adult children are always concerned about them adapting in the com m unity The tournament is being organized by Have a Heart for D ow n Syndrome (HHDS), w hich Sittler started w ith Grant and Joyce Furlane, of Oakville. Although every bit helps, Hardy says these are not meaningful jobs and any earned incom e reduces Jake' s Ontario Disability Support Benefits. Jake, w ho attended Oakville Trafalgar High School, is very social and w ell known in the community. And though her 21-year-old son is independent, h e' s not able to care for him self, adds Hardy. W hat' s needed is long-term opportunities and support. Tickets for the Sink One for Jake golf tournament are $275 per person and include: 18 holes of cham pionship golf, w ith a cart; an amazing lunch and dinner, cocktail hour; silent auction; and, prizes. Registration starts at 11 a.m., with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Lunch is served at 11 a.m., dinner at 6 p.m. The awards presentation starts at 8:30 p.m. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. Former Maple Leaf players At this year' s tournament, former Maple Leaf tough guy Dave "Tiger" Williams and Conner Brown, a right winger, w ho currently plays for the Leafs, w ill join Sittler. Established in 2015, HHDS is a charitable, non-profit foundation that stands for equal opportunity em ploym ent and works w ith local D ow n syndrome associations throughout Ontario on this initiative.
