Oakville's Honourary Colonel Gerald P J. Haddon, of the Royal Canadian Air Force, was on board the Canadian-made Bell 429 helicopter as the Canadian crew departed on a 39,000 kilometre, record-setting journey around the world. The helicopter departed from the worldclass National Helicopters heliport in Vaughan, Ont. Its observation area w as open to the public before the helicopter left for Ot tawa. The helicopter flew into Baddeck July 2, 2017, the birthplace of Canadian Aviation where H addon's grandfather, J. A. D. Mc Curdy, made the first flight in the British Em pire in the Silver Dart on Feb. 23, 1909.
