B4 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, December 29, 2000 rs Blades inch closer to final playoff berth The Oakville Blades closed out the year on a positive note with a 6-1 thrashing over the host Burlington Cougars in provincial junior A hockey action last Friday. It wasn't your ordinary clash of cel lar dwellers since a playoff berth is very much at stake for both teams in the western conference. While clearly a rebuilding year for the Oakville Blades, they would love nothing better than to grab the eighth and final playoff spot, currently held by Bramalea, to at least give them selves an opportunity to pull off some post-season magic. That's exactly what they did last year, grabbing the eighth and final playoff spot and then winning the first three games in their opening round series against top seeded Georgetown. (Georgetown, of course, responded with their own magic, winning the next four games to win the series.)
