Mazda introduces M PS concept car Mazda has introduced the performance-oriented Protege MPS concept car with its industry-first use of a Kenwood MP3 player audio system. "Mazda's objective in building the Protege MPS was to quickly deliver more excitement and performance to the brand while targeting a group of buyers who want image and performance at an affordable price," said Steve Odell, vicepresident of marketing and sales at Mazda North American Operations (MNAO). The Protege MPS combines Mazda's best-selling fourdoor sedan with select performance modifications from the racing/aftermarket industry, making the Protege a true dri ver's car. This MPS concept vehicle, built off the 2001 Protege platform, receives a more aggressive appearance thanks to low profile tires and wheels, a large front air dam with integrated driving lights, full body kit, large rear spoil er and competition Yellow Mica paint. teamed up with Kenwood Car Audio to equip the Protege MPS with, a high-energy sound system, featuring an indus try first in-dash CD/ MP3 receiver, the Kenwood Excelon Z919. This state-of-the-art 280-watt, four- channel system features four speakers and a powerful 10-inch, trunk-mount ed 100-watt subwoofer, and allows customers to listen to standard AM/FM radio stations, play conventional CDs and MP3 encoded CD-Rs through the Z919. The powerplant for the Mazda Protege MPS is a 2.0-liter, engine with an approximate output of 150 hp. A free-flowing T-304 stainless steel Racing Beat cat-back exhaust system gives the Protege MPS the look and sound that sport com pact enthusiasts expect. The suspension system of the Protege MPS has been finetuned by adding Osaka Bane suspension springs on the front and rear, lowering the vehicle nearly an inch. With the low ered suspension package, the MPS improves its cornering ability by 30 per cent, increases its negative camber by 10 per cent and improves the appearance of the vehicle. Mazda worked together with Takechi Project Company and Dunlop Tire to develop a wheel and tire package for the Protege MPS. The result is 18 x 7.5 Racing Hart M-6 alloy wheels sporting ultra-low- profile, 215/40ZR18 Dunlop W10 Z-Rated tires. The interior of the Protege MPS has a sophisticated, European look, combining black trim with silver accents on the doors, console, center stack and shift lever. Hopedale Mall 1455 Rebecca St. Oakville Cold weather driving safety tips As the cold weather approaches, the Burlington Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police would like to remind motorists of a few safety tips. 1. Prepare for winter by having a complete tune-up of your vehicle before winter arrives. 2. Never travel with less than half a tank of gasoline. 3. See and be seen: Danger must be seen to be avoided. Driving with a snow-covered windshield, windows, or lights only invites a crash. CLEAN all snow from your vehicle, and windows of any fog. 4. Equip your vehicle with good wiper blades, and keep ample supply of windshield washer fluid on-hand. 5. Drive with caution. Give yourself ample time to arrive at your destination. Tailgating and aggressive driving only increase your chances of being in a collision. 6. Be aware of "black ice." Use extreme caution on overpass es, intersections, bridges and shaded spots. This area is where ice is likely to form first or be most slippery. If you are on an icy patch, stay away from the brakes as they lock the wheels. Put your vehicle in neutral and take your foot off the brakes. Look and steer where you want the front of your vehicle to go, until you have gained control of your vehicle. 7. Keep your radio tuned to a local radio station for weather and road updates. 8. Every vehicle should be equipped with a winter survival kit. It should include the following items: · Survival candles and matches · Flashlight · First-aid kit · Blankets · Ice scrapers and brush · Snacks · Booster cable For Road Conditions, information is available by calling 1800-268-4686.
