Photographing people is 80% psychology says Andrea Nielsen By C a ro l B ald w in ENTERTAINMENT EDITOR C apturing emotions on film captured an award of merit for Andrea Nielsen at a recent competition of the Professional Photographers of Ontario and the Professional Photog raphers of New York. It was the first time the Oakville photographer had ever entered a competition and she was delighted with the exceptionally high rating the photograph of her daughter yielded. "I almost jum ped over the bench and kissed the judges," says the mother of two, admitting that her daughters are her favourite models, and adding that the winning photo graph will go on to a provincial com petition in April and to a national one in August. Nielsen's parents, who were med ical photographers, gave their daugh ter her first "fully-manual" camera when she was 12. As someone who is lucky enough to get paid to do some thing she loves, Nielsen says her spe cialty - wed dings and chil dren - is "80% psychology and the other 20% is split between technical and artistic skills. "The part I like most about the weddings is working with the people and adding to their day... actually helping them enjoy the flavour of the day and not losing sight of the fact that it is a wedding day.
