Through their collective donations on May 16, the teens raised $700 for Safetynet, a local charity that services families in need with clothing, tutoring, diapers and music lessons. W ho are the 100 Teens W ho Care Oakville? The 100 TWCO is a charity group made up of Oakville and Halton teens who want to give back to the local community and make a difference. Their purpose is to inspire the next generation of philanthropists here in our own community How does the 100 TWCO work? The concept is simple. Teens donate $10 each meeting. Three members of the 100 Teens pitch a charity that is important to them. They have three to five minutes to make their pitch and the 100 Teens members vote anonymously Majority rules -- the charity with most votes receives their collective donation and 100 per cent of the donation is given to charity. The 100 WHCO believe with the power of many, they make individual differences. W hy should a teen join? 100 TWCO is a perfect opportunity for very busy teens to get involved in charity. They only meet four times per year and each meeting is only one hour -- only four hours per year. Initially launched by Karen Dunigan in November, 2006 in Jackson, Mich. under the name 100 Women W ho Care, the `100 Alliance' was formed. The 100 concept was brought to Toronto in March 2012 by Jennifer Wootton Regan and has since expanded in communities across Canada. There is now a 100 Women W ho Care Oakville chapter started here by Ishrani Henry and followed by 100 Guys W ho Care Oakville in 2015 started by Donald Belovich and Amir Gorgi. "This is a great way to bring it all together in a platform that makes it super easy for people," says Belovich. "People with busy lives who have great intentions, but a hard time executing them." Although 100 is in the name, the groups are not limited to only 100 members. The more people inspired by giving back in our local community, the better. The next event is on Tuesday.
