Financial literacy is an essential life skill, and our work supports the Ministry of Education's initiatives to provide additional financial literacy education as part of the mandatory Grade 10 Careers Studies course. This year OPYAC designed and carried out a PFL survey, gathering data from over 1,100 of our peers. Our results provided insight into the current level of PFL education amongst high school students in Oakville and created an outlet for student input on financial literacy topics. Since financial literacy not only links to education, but also the province's efforts towards transforming student assistance, we presented our findings to Minister Flynn (Labour), Minister Matthews (Advanced Education & Skills Development), Minister Hunter (Education), MPP's Baker, and Anderson at Queen's Park May 18. We also had the opportunity to witness Question Period, meet Premier Kathleen Wynne, and tour the Ministry of Labour. Following our day at Queen's Park, the MPPs will continue to share our insights and suggestions with their colleagues, and in doing so OPYAC will have reached its goal of adding the voice of Halton and Oakville youth to the financial literacy movement. -- submitted by Allison Headrick, Oakville Contact Laura Hendren to book your spot LHendren@uwhh.ca or 905-635-31 31 Ext. 317 uwhh.ca/events Provincial Youth Advisory Committee (OPYAC) · OFFMSRP* OAKUILLECHRYSLER.COM ( 9 0 5 ) 845-4211 · 2 7 0 Oak Park Blvd, Oakville (Trafalgar Road just south of Dundas) *T h i$is lo r sto cku n its o n ly , itth eM SR Pis$72,0000y o uw ill receivea $25,200 d isco u n t.
