Oakville Fire reminds residents to celebrate Canada Day safely If barbecuing and fireworks are part of your Canada Day celebration plans this weekend, the Oakville Fire Department is urging you to take the proper precautions to keep your fam ily safe. Fireworks and long weekends often go hand-in-hand and residents are reminded to check with the local fire department about regulations, according to the Town of Oakville. Fireworks Oakville Fire does not recommend fam ily fireworks nor does the Town of Oakville permit informal neighbourhood firework dis plays in public areas. The safest way to enjoy fireworks in Oakville this holiday weekend is to attend the Canada Day festivities at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park, where the fireworks are discharged by professionals. "July is a peak time for barbecue fires and we want to remind residents that placing an outdoor grill too close to anything that can burn creates a dangerous fire hazard," said Gary Laframboise, chief fire prevention officer. "Fortunately, there are simple things you can do to enjoy a safe Canada Day celebra tion."
