Jacob Kohler, ex-M.L.A. of Cayuga, died at the General Hospital, Niagara Falls, at 6 p.m. Friday after a week's illness. On January 11 he was taken ill at Stamford and rushed to the Niagara Falls hospital. He was well known throughout Ontario as a livestock drover, and represented Haldimand in the Ontario legislature from 1904 to 1911.
He was born 73 years ago in Kohler, which was named after his father. About 25 years ago he moved to Cayuga, being associated in the livestock [business]with his brother, the late Christian Kohler. He was one of the original drillers, along with his late brother, Christian Kohler, and W.J. Aikens, in the natural gas fields of Haldimand.
He was a director of the Natural Gas Association of Canada for a number of years past, and one of the original directors of the Chartered Trust Executor Co., of Toronto. He was also a prominent Mason, being a member of St. John's Lodge and the Masonic order of Cayuga and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason.
