SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 19,2 p.m. Call for Tickets Write, market and get story published (Continued from page B8) Participants need not have any experience, just an idea, a pen, paper and a willingness to learn and work on both the creative and the business sides of writing. Would-be authors must be prepared to dis cuss and work on their ideas for a novel as well as on writing a 25-word synopsis and a querie letter, developing marketing strategies, and submitting a manuscript. The four hours will be packed full o f useful information, says Simmons. "A lot o f good books are turned down because they go to the wrong publisher. It's not a bad book, it's just the wrong publish e r... People don't do their homework," she says. "You have to know where you're send ing it and who the people are there...You want them to spend thousands and thousands of dollars on you and your book. You have to invest in a phone call to get the names right." The Romance and Beyond workshop will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Hamilton Room of the YMCA, 79 James St. S., Hamil ton. Advanced registration is recommended. Call 333-4317. For those who would like an extended ver sion of the workshop, Simmons also teaches a 14-week evening course at Sheridan, Craft ing a Novel, teaching students how to shape an idea into a novel. It is so popular, she says, that the college offers it in all three semesters. "It's always full, which is amazing," she says. This Magic Moment will be launched at 7 p.m. in the Burlington Art Centre on Monday, Nov. 27th. And it's free. Simmons says she'll be doing a reading, discussing writing and the publishing industry in general and signing books. For more information on Simmons' and her books visit www.getset.com/lyndasimons.
