Wednesday, November 8, 2000 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER D3 Q.E. Park juniors win silver at OFSAA, led by fourth place finish by Kyle Jones Q.E. Park brought back a team medal from the OFSAA cross country championships this past weekend and just missed out on an individual medal. The Q.E. Park junior boys team capped off a banner sea son with a silver medal from the OFSAA meet which was held at the Heartlake Conservation Area in Brampton. And they were led by Kyle Jones who finished in fourth place and Richard Garton in 11th place. They were the two best results o f all Oakville runners at OFSAA. They were followed in by fellow Q.E. Park teammates James Kozak (43rd), Cameron Shepherd (133rd) and Filip Prostran (155th). All were part o f the Q.E. Park cross country contingent which competed in the world high school cross country championships in M orocco earlier this year (although Prostran did not make the trip). A great result for the team considering that another member of the team Paul Reynard was not available to the team as his family moved out of the area. The team gold medal at OFSAA was won by St. M ichael's. The Q.E. Park junior team had been putting together good results all season and were gunning for gold. They won the combined G-HAC/Halton championship as well as winning all three Ontario tournaments they entered, in Bishop Reding, Iona and Heartlake. In the latter two, they won the team title over St. M ichael's. They went to a U.S. tournament in Rochester and settled for third. "We are happy," said coach Bryan Camani. On the girls' side, there were a couple o f top 15 finishes with Q.E. Park's Courtney Kirkby finishing 13th in junior women's and W hite O aks' Kathryn Matheson finishing 14th in midget girls. To put it in perspective, noted Camani, imagine if a hockey player was rated in the top 15 in the province: "it's a huge achievem ent." Complete results o f all Oakville competitors and teams have been included.
