The 28th annual contest was held May 1-3 at the Toronto Congress Centre. The event, the largest skilled-trade and technology competition in Canada, brought together 2,000 participants from more than 67 different contests. Sheridan apprentices swept the medals in the Precision-Machining competition for the second time in three years. Daniel van Veen won a gold medal and now moves on to represent Team Ontario at the Skills Canada tournament in Winnipeg in early June. Van Veen also won the top-ranked college competitor overall for Skills Ontario, the first time a Sheridan competitor has achieved this. Industrial Mechanic Millwright student Ryker Duff was recognized as the top-ranking Skills Ontario participant representing a Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development (MAESD)-funded program. The team of 11 Sheridan students also took part in CNC Machining, Website Development, Architectural Technology and Design, IT Office Software Application and Mechatronics contests. Skills Ontario honours went to professor Craig Brazil, who was named one of two recipients of the 2 0 1 7 Glenn Beatty Award, which recognizes outstanding volunteers.
