The OFFA presented the official film lineup for 2017 during a Thursday, May 11 media launch at Budds' Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC, in Oakville. "The quality of films continues to astound me," said OFFA Founder and Chair Wendy Donnan. "Everyone has put so much into this festival." The festival is committed to engaging, enriching and inspiring the community and putting together an event -- not just a film, added Donnan. Festival host Rob Salem, the Toronto Star's television critic, who has been with OFFA for three years, introduced the selected films. "This is very exciting," he said. The selected films represent multiple genres, styles and tone -- each presenting different perspectives on life and the human condition that connects each of us. World premieres will include To the Mountain (Canadian Drama); and, The Meaning o f Life, which is the Saturday night special event gala. And it will feature Canadian premieres of: A Ghost Story (American drama/fantasy); the Friday night opening gala, starring Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara; G ear (Canadian/American drama/thriller); Treasure Hound (Canadian family); and, The Time o f their Lives (British Comedy), starring Joan Collins, Pauline Collins and Franco Nero. Eastern Canadian premieres will include: From the Land o f the Moon (French historical); The Death (and Life) o f Carl Naardlingei' (Canadian comedy/drama); and, Victor Walk (Canadian comedy/drama). Regional premieres include: Heroes Manufactured (Canadian documentary); Where the Universe Sings: The Spiritual Journey o f Lawren Harris (Canadian documentary; Broken Mile (Canadian drama/thriller); and, Personal Shopper (French drama/thriller), starring Kristen Stewart, who garnered international success in The Twilight Saga. Other regional premieres will include: 13 Minutes (German historical drama); Get Happy! (American comedy/drama); and, Red D og Tine Blue (Australian family), which is the Saturday afternoon family special event. Willson Oakville Film Festival special presentations will be: Miltonk Secret (Canadian drama), starring Donald Sutherland; and, Lovesick (Canadian romance) starring Jay Baruchel. All gala screenings will be held at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts and films will be featured at Film.ca theatres in Oakville.
