In last Friday's gam e, Jackson s Bales broke a 2-2 tie midway through the second and Tyler Hildebrandt and Rajic extended the Blades' lead to 5-2 in the third. Brendan McGlynn stopped 18 of the 19 shots he faced in the third period and finished the gam e with 35 saves. Bryce Misley and Jac k Jeffers also scored for the Blades and Matthew Kellenberger and Drew Worrad each had two assists. Oakville well-represented a t U Sports national tourney Oakville's Sydney Davison scored twice as the Guelph Gryphons beat Nipissing 6-1 last Saturday to win the Ontario University Athletics women's hockey championship. With Guelph trailing 1-0 after the opening period, the rookie centre scored 1:13 into the second period to tie the game. Oakville's Claire M errick assisted on Guelph's next two goals as the Gryphons ex tended their lead to 3-1 before the end of the period. Davison added her second goal as part of a three-goal third period that sealed the win for Guelph. It was the second straight OUA cham pionship for Merrick and Oakville's Laura Crowdis. Guelph now advances to the U Sports national cham pionship tournam ent which starts today (Thursday) in Napanee, and the Guelph trio will have plenty of com pany from back home. Oakville's Olivia Atkinson scored twice and set up another in the M c Gill Martlets' 4-0 win in the open ing gam e of the Quebec university cham pionship and the second-year forward added another assist in the series-clinching 3-0 win. She'll be joined at the national tourna m ent by fourth-year goalie Brittany Smrke of Oakville. The University of British Colum bia Thunderbirds will be the No. 1 seed at nationals after capturing their second straight Canada West title, rallying from a game down to win their best-of-three series against the University of Alberta Pandas. Oakville's Em ily O'Neill had an assist in U B C s 3-1 win that tied the series. The Thunderbirds won the deciding game 1-0. UBC, last year's national final ist, opens the U Sports cham pi onship tournam ent today against host Queen's , which includes sec ond-year defenceman Mackenzie Stamper. McGill will play St. Francis Xavi er, including Oakville's Jessica Geddes, in the opening round. St. FX lost the Atlantic University Sport cham pionship after being edged by St. Mary's 3-2 in triple overtime. Guelph plays its first gam e to morrow against Concordia. Five Oakville women in Frozen Four with a shot at NCAA crown Five Oakville players remain in the hunt for the NCAA w om en's hockey title. Oakville's Sydney McKibbon, Nikki Cece and M ellissa Channell and the No. 1 W isconsin Badgers, 31-2-4, advanced to tom orrow's (Friday's ) Frozen Four with a 7-0 win over Robert Morris. M cKibbon, W isconsin's senior captain, finished fourth in team scoring with 13 goals and 32 points in 38 games. In January she became the 23rd player in school history to record 100 career points. Channell, a senior defenceman, had two goals and 14 assists this season while Cece, a freshman goalie, played five gam es for the Badgers. She went 4-1-0 with one shutout, a 1.60 goals-against aver age and a .907 save percentage. W isconsin will face the Boston College Eagles in Friday's sem ifi nal. Oakville's Kristyn Capizzano had 14 goals and 10 assists in 38 gam es in her senior season, includ ing a goal in the Eagles' 6-0 quar ter-final win over St. Lawrence. Boston College, 28-5-5 this sea son, lost to M innesota in last year's final. M innesota kept alive its hopes of winning a third straight title by upsetting No. 3-seed MinnesotaDuluth 1-0 in the quarter-finals. Oakville's Lindsay Agnew had three goals and four assists in 37 gam es in her freshman season with the Golden Gophers. M innesota will play Clarkson in the other semifinal.
