Since early March, police say they have re ceived num erous reports of thieves gaining entry to hom es by sm ashing or prying open rear patio doors and/or windows. Police say these incidents are taking place during various times of the day and night. The suspects are targeting jewelry, electron- ics and tools. Police are advising hom eowners to acti vate any alarm system s, ensure all windows and doors are locked, and keep valuable item s out of view from the street before de parting. They also urge m em bers of the public to connect with neighbours who are home during the day and encourage them to call police if they observe anything suspicious. As an additional m easure of protection, m em bers of the public with residential sur veillance are reminded of the Halton Region- al Police Service's Security Cam era Registra tion and M onitoring Program (S.C.R.A.M .). This community-based crime prevention and investigative tool allows individuals to identify and register residential video sur veillance equipment through a sim ple, se cure, confidential, online form located on the service's website (haltonpolice.ca) under "Services" and choose "Security Cam era Re source."
