As the Scouts Canada flag was hoisted at Town Hall, 4th Trafalgar Group Commissioner Scott Barber and scouting members from across Oakville welcomed Councillors Dave Gittings, Tom Adams and Natalia Lishchyna. "Thank you for joining us as we celebrate Scout-Guide week and more than 100 years of scouting in Oakville," Barber said in a media release. "Through scouting, each year hundreds of Oakville youths participate in safe, youthled, adventurous programs. Along the way, they develop into capable, confident and wellrounded individuals, better prepared for success in the world." Scout-Guide week honours the birthday of Lord Robert Baden-Powell (Feb. 22) who started the Scouting Movement with his wife, Lady Olave Baden-Powell, World Chief Guide, in 1907. This annual celebration for Scouts Canada and Girl Guides of Canada brings together two worldwide youth movements to honour their heritage and recognize the good work both associations do for the Oakville community.
