"The buys bought into that belief. "It was a team-oriented win." If there was a major turning point in the series, Messina felt it took place after their third-game loss to London. Lets' make A Deal!! CASH PRICE NOW ONLY $ When the Stouffville bantam AE Clippers took part in the Silver Stick regional qualifier in Georgina last month, they were defeated in the final. Despite coming up short, the Clippers had the good fortune of receiving an invite to take to the ice to compete in the International Silver Stick finals in Pelham last weekend. The Clippers made the most of that opportunity as they skated off with their division's Tier 2 title that was capped off with a 5-0 win over the Huntsville Otters in Sunday's final. "It sure feels great," said Clippers' head coach Corrado Messina, who was nursing a broken foot and was limited in getting in on his club's post-game celebrations. "The boys did exactly what we coached them to do." In reaching the final, the Clippers split their four-game round robin that included an opening game loss to host Pelham 1-0 before rebounding to down Arvada, Colo. 5-2 and then suffering a 4-2 loss to London and then routing Santa, Clara, Calif. 11-0 in their final tilt. With a 2-2 record, the Clippers advanced to the semifinal where they skated off with a 3-0 win over Petrolia Saturday to punch their ticket into Sunday's finale. Reflecting on the championships, Messina felt the key to their success stemmed from their unselfish play. "We (coaches) told them that winning re 0 0 CHEVROLET · BUICK · GMC 7:0 `From that point on we did not lose another game.' "They (London) were a tough team but we (coaches) told our guys that the way we played in that game, the teamwork and sacrifices came to the forefront and we told them we were happy with the way they played," he cited. "From that point on we did not lose another game." Assisting Messina behind the bench were Craig Macinnis and Pete Hary. Team members included: goalkeepers Juan Rivera and Sam Luff, defencemen Jack Valleau, Tim Arnold, Jordan Lewis, Sam Roy, Nathan Tratnik and Jacob Turney and forwards Liam Macinnis, Nick Olidis, Ryan Cusack, Robert Hume, Michael Hary, Andrew Levesque, Mathieu Kovac, Michael Messina and mark Assal. Brian Arnold served as the club's trainer and Mark Turney, manager. Michael Hayakawa 0 re 7:0 0 22,188* +HST & Licence All Gm Programs applied 5336 Hwy. 7, Markham (Just East of McCowan Rd.) 905.294.1440 · markvillechevrolet.com
