Friday, November 10, 2000 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER ______________________________________________________________ 5 Oakville Legion Remembrance Day Ceremony at George' s Square The Oakville Legion, Branch 114 of the Royal Canadian Legion, will hold its Remembrance Day Parade on Saturday Nov. 11th, Remembrance Day. Veterans will gather at the Oakville Legion, Church and Navy Streets, at 10:15 a.m., for a parade leaving at 10:30 a.m. The parade will go south on Navy Street, east on Lakeshore Road and north on Trafalgar Road to the Cenotaph in George's Square, for an 11 a.m. service. The service will include M ajor Ray Braddock of the Oakville Salvation Army, the Oakville Salvation Army Band, Pastor Douglas Bramer, and Michelle Ashbumer, winner of the Oakville Legion's public speaking con test, will recite `In Flanders Fields.' A full two minutes of silence will be observed in keeping with the Royal Canadian Legion's two-minute Wave of Silence launch last year. Following the service, veterans and mem bers o f the public who were at the Cenotaph are invited back to the Legion Hall (downstairs only) for a reception and refreshments. Oakville Club hosts Remembrance Day event "The Oakville Club is opening its doors to the community on Saturday, Nov. 11th, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., for a special Remembrance Day celebration of the 55 th anniversary of World W arll. Oakville veterans, including one of Canada's most highly decorated soldiers, author Denis Whitaker, will be honoured guests, offering the general public a unique opportunity for dis cussion. The event is sponsored by the Oakville Club, by Bookers Bookstore and by three publishing houses: HarperCollins, Stoddart and McGraw Hill. There is no admission charge and refreshments are compli mentary.
