Our veterans are benefitting from new and re-opened Veterans Affairs offices, as well as in creased staffinglevels to better service veterans' needs. Current and future retirees will benefit from improvements to the Canada Pension Plan and an increase in the Guaranteed Income Supple ment. Students pursuing post-secondary education have more help paying for their education be cause of increases to the Canada Student Grant. The federal government continues to negoti ate with the provinces and territories to ensure funds in the Canada Health Transfer are targeted to home care, mental health, and prescription drug initiatives. I am proud of the benefits these changes are having on Canadians across the country. Canada has also taken a principled and re spectful stance with respect to climate change commitments and the refugee crisis. We are working hard to meet our international obliga tions and strike a balance between domestic in terests and the needs of humanity and the planet. Locally, I'm pleased so many of Oakville's citi zens and businesses have benefitted from federal government programs. Oakville families have received over $4 million in Canada Child Ben efits since last October to help support more than 13,000 children in our community. Local publishing, high technology and agri food businesses, as well as Sheridan College, have received hundreds of thousands of dollars in support and funding. Oakville organizations and businesses received over $1 million in fund ing through the federal Canada Summer Jobs program -- double the funding from the previ ous government -- which created 352 job op portunities for our local youths. I will continue to advocate on your behalf and ensure Oakvillians are benefitting from real change. The federal government will continue to put forward responsible and significant legislation that improves the lives of current and future gen erations of Canadians. Strengthening the middle class, growing the economy, protecting our environment and rep resenting Canada' s interests in the world remain our priorities moving forward.
