The popular Jewels and Jeans gala returns to the city for its fourth rendition and invites those who attend to come out in their finest bling while being in the comfort of their favourite denim. "Looking fabulous doesn't mean you have to be dressed to the nines," Jeanette Wilson, of The Arthritis Society, said in a media release. "This is about enjoying the glitz and glamour of a gala without having to bust out the black tie or ball gown. It' s always a big hit." The event includes: appetizers and aperitifs, a four-course dinner from Executive Chef Sunil Perera, silent and live auctions, a `Hot Rocks' raffle for a jewelry prize, local entertainment and dancing. Since it' s been held, the gala has raised tens of thousands of dollars to support education, programs and research to help those living with arthritis, according to the Society. "One in six of us is living with this disease and it affects people of every age, from every walk of life. If it' s not you, it' s someone you know, some one you love," said Wilson. "The pain of arthritis makes it hard to do sim ple things like get dressed, prepare a meal, walk around the corner, or even open a jar -- and yet so often, people with arthritis suffer in silence. We know we can count on the understanding and support of the people of Burlington as we work together to create a future without arthri tis." Single tickets and tables of eight are available.
