The Mississauga Transitway project involves constructing a high-efficiency, east-west, dedicated bus corridor across the City of Mississauga. Metrolinx is constructing the western segment (Erin Mills and Winston Churchill stations as well as the Renforth Gateway) and the City of Mississauga is constructing the eastern segment. The current configuration of the Hwy. 403/Hwy. 407 interchange does not allow for transit vehicles entering Hwy. 403 from Winston Churchill Blvd. to access Hwy. 407 westbound. The purpose of the 407 West Connection project is to improve bus service efficiency by constructing a new, dedicated busway from the Winston Churchill Station to the westbound lanes of Hwy. 407. In som e schools, Baillie says service organizations, such as the Knights of C olum bus, help prepare and serve the food, in addition to donating m oney for the program. Churches also assist w ith the breakfast pro gram in Halton. By far, finding volunteers to run the breakfast pro grams is the biggest chal lenge, adds Baillie. In spite of the pro gram' s success, only 60 per cent of schools in Oakville are able to provide breakfast. Bur lington has a higher percent age of schools that offer the breakfast pro gram (85 per cent), but Mil ton and Halton Hills have a lower capacity. Halton Food for Thought receives base funding for its school nutrition program from the Ontario M inis try of Children' s Services, in addition to support from the United Way of Halton, Breakfast for Learning and Breakfast Clubs of Canada. According to HFFT, one in 10 students arrive at school each day w ithout enough food to sustain them through the day. Six in 10 high school students arrive at school w ithout having eaten breakfast.
