Holidays aregonebutToysforTotsresults keep payingoffforfamilies The most recent police-led campaign to make Christmas brighter for Halton families and children raised about a quarter million dollars in cash and gifts. Halton Regional Police said its annual Toys for Tots holiday fundraising campaign raised about $250,000 in toys, gift cards, cash and food for local families, helping about 4,350 families. In its 16th year, the latest drive ran from Nov 15-Dec. 24,2016. "Once again, the people of Halton have gone above and beyond," said Halton police Chief Stephen Tanner. "Residents, businesses and groups not only exemplified the spirit of Christmas, they gave us all another reason to be proud to call our region home." For the past eight years, Halton police has partnered with the Burlington Tions Optimist Minor Hockey Association (BTOMHA) for the toy and gift drive. In 2016, BTOMHA raised more than $60,000 in cash, toys and gift cards, bringing its overall total to more than $275,000. Their efforts are spearheaded by parent representative Shari Carruthers. Meanwhile, a local corporation, which wishes to remain anonymous, donated $21,000 worth of toys. Other area organizations raised about $190,000 in cash, toys and gift cards during the campaign. The community partners who made significant contributions in 2016 included Budds Subaru, the Burlington Cougars junior hockey Tire locations region-wide, at each city/town Santa Claus Parade, at three Cram-a-Cruiser challenges, and at numerous other community events. Halton police members raised more than $6,400 of their own funds through individual initiatives and platoon challenges. Service volunteers also were responsible for packaging and delivering toys to area families in their homes and in hospital. 1 3 | Thursday, February 23, 2017 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Canada's Best Value Hearing Aids Lim ited tim e offer!
