Town council approved the new digital plan Jan. 30. "In today's digitally-driven world, it's more important than ever to be strategic in the way we provide online services to our residents," Oakville Mayor Rob Burton stated in a media release. "This strategy will be our digital roadmap as we continue to invest in technology and embrace innovation." Engaging citizens is at the centre of the digital strategy, according to Town officials. T h e m unicipality will introduce a beta website this spring as a testing ground for new digital Mayor Rob Burton services while those services are developed. The test site will give residents an opportunity to try new online services and provide feedback at different stages of development. By engaging the community from the start of the process, residents and the Town will be co-designers to ensure new services are easy to use and designed from the perspective of the user. The strategy will use the extensive data the Town produces to improve services and promote an organizational culture that embraces digital innovation to meet citizen needs. The Town will establish partnerships with academic institutions and private sector companies to better respond to emerging digital opportunities and attract new knowledge-based businesses, head offices and skilled workers to the community. The Town of Oakville has $22 million in technology investments planned in the 10year capital forecast, including piloting new digital tools in a wide-variety of areas, from energy management to making it easier to get online permits. "The digital strategy establishes a clear focus and direction for these investments and aligns them toward a common goal," stated Colleen Bell, Oakville's Community Services commissioner in the release. "By actively engaging our citizens, we will deliver relevant and better-designed services that meet their needs and expectations." P Notice of Study Completion Morrison Creek Stabilization and Rehabilitation Upper Middle Road to McCraney Street The Town of Oakville has completed a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) to assess creek erosion and stability of West Morrison Creek from Upper Middle Road to McCraney Street. The study characterized the existing site, determined the causes of erosion and developed alternative solutions for the stabilization and rehabilitation of the creek channel and banks along Morrison Creek. The study was conducted in compliance with a Schedule "B" project as outlined in the Municipal Engineers Association Municipal Class Environmental Assessment document (Oct. 2000, as amended in 2007, 2011, and 2015), which is approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act . The recommended solution includes the following components: · Short-term: a combination of creek realignment and protecting the existing creek in-place. · Long-term: pedestrian bridge improvements and identifying opportunities to implement source controls in municipal projects in the West Morrison Creek watershed and to promote their use in private development.
