X Oakville's three 2016 Ontario Junior Citizens by Marta Marychuk Oakville Beaver Staff -- Three Oakville youths have been recog nized as 2016 Ontario Junior Citizens. Sharon Lim and Jack M ogus are both fi nalists and Anastasia Drakos was nominated in the program, co-ordinated by the On tario Com munity Newspapers Association (OCNA) for their outstanding achievements. Sharon Lim Lim is a well-rounded individual, working hard in school to maintain a 98 per cent aver age and dedicating her spare time to volunteer initiatives, which include tutoring students during lunch hours, being a camp counsellor and working with Habitat for Humanity. Lim is currently planning a local Children's Farm ers Market, an event for talented youth to sell art and handmade crafts all by themselves. All of the profit raised will be donated to her local Children's Aid Society. Jack Mogus Sharon Lim Jack Mogus Anastasia Drakos Whether visiting northern communities to deliver sports equipment or cleaning pub lic areas of his hometown, M ogus is always ready to accept new challenges and find ways to help. In 2012, M ogus took the initiative to begin Change by YOUth, encouraging volunteerism and igniting positive change within his community His organization has collect ed more than 2,000 pairs of skates and hock ey equipment for First Nations schools. Jack has even personally travelled to remote fly-in communities such as Cat Lake (Ojibway First Nation reserve approximately 180 kilometres northwest of Sioux Lookout in northwestern Ontario) and Wapekeka (an Oji-Cree First Nation reserve in Kenora District) to deliver som e items. Anastasia Drakos Drakos has been an active member of the Hamilton community for several years, Last year, her family moved to Oakville and her strong commitment to volunteerism led her to divide her time between organizations in both the Hamilton and Oakville com m uni ties. In 2014, Drakos began her own charity called Pass ft On where she collected gently used clothing for children and teens in need. The Ontario Junior Citizen Awards are pro moted through the 300 member newspapers of the OCNA, including The Oakville Beaver. Nominations of eligible youths aged six to 17, are received through member community newspapers committed to recognizing the outstanding leaders who are making a differ ence in their communities.
