The fact that and imitation is offered is one of the strongest proofs of the qualities of the genuine article. The Dr. Williams Medicine 00. is continually trying to impress upon the public the fact that Dr. Williams Pink Pills are only sold in securely sealed boxes, the wrapper around which is printed in red ink and bears the registered trade marke “ Dr. Williams Pink Pills for Pale People.” Notwithstanding this mutant warn. 49g there are unscrupulous dealers here nndtherewhodefrandthe public by y The Treasurer, Mr. W. Councillor Bateson stated that the term of the present Constable was nearing its end and as he was dissatisfied with the present arrangement heathought some steps should be taken at this meeting and asked the Reeve if it would be necessary to frame a lay-law. 'The Reeve said he thought a bv-law was not necessary and that the mat- ter could be left over until the next meet- Mr. Hugh Johnston appeared before the council and com lained of overcharge of taxes for 1894. he Reeve looked carefully into the matter and said it would be dealt. with at. the Court. of Revision. The motion was carried. The Reeve drew the attention of the council to the fact that the tender from the outside office was somewhat lower than the amount 'd to the home ofice but that he would vise them to consider the matter carefully before deciding to send the order outside of the corporation as there was a. certain amount of advertising that was com pnlsory to have done inside the corporation no matter by whom the contract for the gees“! The Reeve stated that he had consulted the town solicitor an the matter and was of the opinion that the by-law was legal and he was certainly of the opinion that there should be some better plan for the col- lection of dog taxes as they (that is the dogs) were becoming a nuisance. Councillor Campbell said he could not see where the tag system would be an improve- ment on the old way of collecting the dog taxes. He also thought if any changes were made there should be a. tax of ten dollars imposed on bitches. Councillor Clark thought that every man should be allowed to hay his own tag. ~i'7fqr_ drawing fire engine were ordered to The dog-tax by-law (of Councillor Bate- son fame) was then brought in and discussed by the members of the boar . Councillor Bateson explained that the only object he had for having a by-law of this nature fram- ed was to establish a better system of col- lecting do taxes and he thought at the ex- piration 0 one year the tag system would not only prove to be a. financial benefit, to the village but would prove satisfactory to the major-it of the ratepayers and would haves ten ency to set aside the bone of contention held by those who are not the fortunate (or Lunfortnnatetownersof dogs. ' The matter of a quantity of new hose re- quired by the Fire com y was discussed and a motion by Counci Zor Bateson, second- ed by Councillor Clarke, instructinw the clerk to procure 100 feet. of the Baker-fabric Hose was carried.
