3r Daniel Ritz, Proprietor and Publisher of the Hamberg, Ont., Independent says : “ I was suffering from Dyspepsia and Liver Trouble, I took a. few bottles of Shiloh’s Vitalizer and it‘cured me. I can heartily .recommend it.†Sold by A. LEACH. This is the devine sermon preached 51y Moses, more potent than the pulpit oratory of a Talmage or a Farrar, when he left a royal court and became an exile in the wil- derness, and having led his people to liberty and national greatness, died, without enter- ing into that promised land which became the portion of his ungrateful brethren. {Chis is the text elaborated in the life of Saul of Tarsus when he counted all the worldly gain and prominence which his learning and ability forshadowed, as dross, so that he might gain the prize and carry the gospel to the Gentiles, through trials bv sea. and land, through stripes, and imprison- ments, to death itself. The musical part of the programme was replete with duetts ~(no, quartetts or perhaps that is not right, say octettes, or ask the chairman) solos and cornet duetts, by different members of the circle and members of the church choirs. {l‘he refreshments provided by the lady members of the circle had two good features quality and, quantity but we were some- thing like l’at, who, on being invited out to dinner, took so much of the good things in the ï¬rst course that he was unable to take a good hand in the better delicacies which came on afterwards. We will learn with Pats bitter experience however, to light shy of the ï¬rst round hereafter even should we snï¬â€˜er the gnawings .of an empty maw by their being no second spread. The evening’s entertainment given by the Home Circle membership in their hall on Monday night was well attended notw1th- standing the excessive storm. Mr. \V. Archer, Leader of No. 6 Millbrook, occupied the chair, and he certainly makes a model chairman, for if he does happen to loose his grip by a slip of the tongue he can catch on again with perfect composure. The Rev. WV. R. Young of Peterboro gave an address on the different kinds of spectacles we look through, which was well received, and Mr. Nixon of Toronto took up the advantages and necessities of the order in a speach delivered with the case and arrangement of points, acquired by oft repetition, al- though in his dates he was always ten years back. His object was to place before the audience the desirability of having such pro- tection, as the Home Circle afl'ords to the heads of families in the uncertain journey of life and by apt illustration and pertinent incident, he placed the subject in a. light well calculated to call forth the best opinions of the order. It may not be out of place for us in reporting Monday evenings entertain- ment, to add our expressions of interest and wishes of Godspeed to this and similar institutions whose great and only objects are the alleviation of distress, the protection of the widow and the orphan and the social and material advantages supplied by that strength of union which fraternity places within the reach of such society membership. We are too apt to turn on our heel at ne- cessities’ call, saying, depart in peace be ye Warned and fed †unmindfull of the fact, or ignorant of the devine message, that it is more blessed to give than to receive, while fraternal and benevolent teachings step for- ward to say, “ Is he not after all my brother?†He is an enemy of his race who does not care for its wellfare and is wedded to selfishness and greed. Press onward Canadian Home Circle and all kindred or- ganizations, until, the world over “ man to man shall brother be†and he only is recog- nized a brother indeed, who “ delivereth the needy when he crieth and him that hath no helper. This is practical christianity and being such, should be recognized and aided by the church in their errand of mercy. WV. S. In addition to the usual entertaining read- ing there are several new features noticed this month, one being an original and de- cidedly fascinating Scarf Drill that will be immensely popular. Another is the resump- tion of the articles on the Uses of Crepe and Tissue papers, with illustrations; and a third is the ï¬rst of the promised series of papers on Hygienic Living. The House- Keeper is specially considered in Some Dainty Cookery, Hints to Housewives, and the article on Household Renovation which treats of the Repairing and Polishing of the Woodwork of Furniture ; while the mother of marriageable daughters will ï¬nd food for serious thought in the concluding chapter of Child Life. The second instalment of: Gesture in Elocution continues the subject‘ in a masterly way. Hooper was committed to stand his trial at. the new term of the Court of Queen’s Bench on the charge of having attempted to murder his wife by throwing her into the river at Loniseville. Judge Barthe render- ed that decision yesterday afternoon. The accused entered the court room at 2:05, and immediately after Judge Barthe took his seat. The Clerk of the peace presented the transcript of the deposnions ; the accused dispensed with the reading of the same. Hooper pleaded not guilty of the charge brought against him, Mr. Cook applied that bail be granted the accused and read an afï¬davit sworn to by him that Hooper was and is in ill health. Certiï¬cates from Doctors Cussons, Kilborn, Boulette and Panneton were read which established his ill health. The Crown, represented by Mr. Denyncourt, opposed the granting of bail. Bail was refused.
