Scott of Port Hope for payment. in full for apples that were frozen after being purchased, but before being removed. Mr. Elson won his 0 ase. â€"\Vednesday of last week was a. great day for the Millbrook curlers. Four rinks from Port Hope encountered the same num- ber of rinks from here, and the result was disaster and defeat for Port Hope. Two rinks, skipped by Mr. \\'. T. \Vood and Mr. A. Vance left here at noon and found pitted against them at Port Hope the veteran skips, Ned Burton and Tom \Vard. The games were intensely int-e1esting and excit- ing th1oughout, and the result was in doubt until the last stone was delivered. Vance and Ward at the conclusion of the 22nd end were a. tie, but \Vood managed to get four stones nearer the “ tee " than did ‘ Burton. Mr Hampton and Mr. Steel at home 1 were opposed to Capt. Henniug and Capt. Colwell and a‘. the conclusion, strange to say Hampton and Colwell had the same number of points, but Colwell was three ahead of Steel. The result was therefore a. victory by one shot for Millbrook. The new curlers show ed up in geod form, and and special mentiozi should be made of Skip: \\ 00d and his hovs, to whom is due the“ e1edit of adding one more to the long list of victories of the Millbrook curling club. The present number of members is over 16,000, and the society has a cash surplus on hand for the payment of the insurance of over $215,000, $50,000 of which is in the Domin- ‘ ion of Canada bonds, and the balance is in- ‘vested in the best monetary institution of the Dominion, In addition to this, courts have about half a million dollars in their treasuries for the payments of the sick and funeral benefits.
