Ops Council Proceedings. The members of Ops council met pursuant to notice on Monday, Nov. 29th. All members :present. The minutes of last regular meeting and subsequent special meeting were read, and on motion by Messrs. Currins and Robertson were duly conï¬rmed. The following communications were read : From T. Matchett, esq., county clerk, asking for an expression of opinion on the proposal that the county council assume the control of the leading highways of the county, with a view of permanently improving the same on a regular systematic basis, as suggested by the report of the committee on roads and bridges at last meet- ing of the county council. From A. C. Reid, calling the attention of the council to the necessity oi improving the swamp road across the 7th con., 2nd qr. line. From ‘ Jacob Soles, resigning the office of path. ‘ master, and recommending Jos. Holmes as ? a suitable man for the position. Mr. Thos. Paul. of J anetville, whose horse was fatally hurt Monday night, Nov. 15th, on his way home from Lindsay, at lot 10, 5th eon., ad- . dressed the council, saying the horse was worth at least .75, that his death was caused by plunging in o the ditch on the west side of the road, that the ditch is about three '1 feet deep, and therefore dangerous, and that 1 he would accept 40 in compensation for his loss. Mr. James Robertson, commissioner ; for that section, said that he had measured [ the width of the road where the accident had occurred and found it to be at least 22 I feet wide, that a driver can easily turn his horse and rig around without backing, that the place is not at all dangerous if ordinary care is taken in driving, that he had been credibly informed the horse was hurt be- cause he was allowed to bolt across the ditch and become entangled in the fence and some timber lying near it. The reeve assured: Mr. Paul that while the council regretted his loss they could not compensate him unless it was clearly shown that they were justiï¬ed in doing so; they would make further inquiry and decide at next meeting. Mr. J. E. Knight addressed the council in behalf of the Children’s Aid Society, and on motion by Mr. Currins, seconded by Mr. Hopkins, the sum of $5 was given to the lLindsay branch of that society. Mr. Cur‘ . iins moved, seconded by Mr. Hutton, that I the communication of the county clerk be considered and a resolution passed at next meeting expressing the opinion of this council in regard to the proposed change.â€" Carried.“ M_r._ Robertson moved, seconded 57, -L:-_ Via. . .v... , by Mr. Hopkins, that J.
