I CHURCH Norseâ€"The Methodist church at Oakwood has become a stronghold for evangelistic work and moral reform. The Sabbath services are largely attended, and the ministerial meetings liberally patron- ized ...... Last Tuesday night the Young People’s Society held a public temperance meeting which was largely attended. The program was a most excellent one, consist- ing of appropriate songs and choruses by the choir....'l‘he Rev. C. H. Shephard, junior pastor, gave a very telling address. Bro. Shephard is a strong matter~of~fact man. He proceeded to pile up figures and facts against the liquor traflic that would convince the most skeptical that the day had come when this business, even for home purposes, should cease. His vivid pictures of the appalling work at strong drink were well calculated to afiright any who might be tempted to indulge in the intoxicating bowl. The address reached a high climax when the speaker proceeded to arraign the liquor business with its legitimate work of destroying men, body and soul, for time and eternity. Miss Silver-wood gave a very patheiic recitation in her own masterly style. Rev. Alfred Foster, being with us for the occasion, gave us a short, earnest address. Miss Pearl Weldon gave us a couple of recitations in her graphic and matchless manner. A show of bands proved that nearly all had already taken the pledge; some new names were added to the list. Mr. Editor, nearly all the young people in this part of the country are pledged to total abstinence.
