Oakville Place 842-4811 M on.-Fri. 9:30-9pm, Sat. 8:00-6pm , Sun. 11-6pm Where's T. A. Blake lock's Centennial Year time capsule? A brass plaque on the ceiling in the gymnasium points to the time capsule buried under the stage in 1967. "But, it's nowhere to be found," says Gail Jefferies of Blakelock's reunion com mittee. Organizers had planned to open the time capsule during the reunion in July. "We believe it was placed under the stage," continues Jefferies. "Barb Warden, our reunion registrar, and the janitor, have been crawling around under the stage, and couldn't find any trace of it." Organizers will be putting a notice on the reunion web site at http://tabhs.haltonbe.on.ca looking for information on the whereabouts of this time capsule. "There are rumours that the time cap sule was moved when an addition was built onto the school, that it was relocated within the school to the drama depart ment, but that's a vague possibility." Jefferies emphasizes every lead will be followed up. Nevertheless, reunion organizers will be creating their own time capsule, and filling it with Year 2000 memorabilia. "And, we'll be specific about where the time capsule is to be located." This reunion, covering the decade 1965-1975, will be held July 7th and 8th. On Friday night, a Meet & Greet Pub will be held at the Halton Regional Centre, Bronte Road north of the QEW, from 7:30 p.m. to 1 am . The event continues Saturday with a dance at the Halton Regional Centre from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. The new time capsule will be dedicated, and the original one, if found, will be opened. Each evening will cost $15 each or $25 per couple; $30 or $50 for the twoday event. Both evenings will be catered, with a cash bar. The T. A. Blakelock Alumni Millennium Award will also be announced, to be awarded to the person who comes "second best, somebody who may be overlooked for the hours they've contributed to a school project," said Jefferies. This award is to be given annu ally by the school. More than a year in the planning, the reunion has drawn interest from between 300 and 400 people. "We've got people coming from as far away as Switzerland, Texas, the east coast and Vancouver. Recently, Jefferies has heard from Hugh Brearley, 85, of Hamilton, who was principal of Blakelock during the 1960s. In addition to soliciting help in locating the 1967 time capsule, reunion organizers are also looking for memorabilia of that era - yearbooks, photos, newspaper arti cles, old sports uniforms, prom dresses, and even old vinyl records popularly described as `45s' and `78s.' If you know where the time capsule is buried, or wish to contribute memorabilia, or prize and raffle items, call Barb Warden at 825-4040; or Gail Jefferies at 849-4301. Inquiries can also be made on-line, or by mail to TAB Reunion Committee, RO. Box 1016, Oakville, Ont., L6J 5E8.
