The project, dubbed N o Valuables Onboard, focuses on educating and reminding members of the public, and their visiting guests, about thefts from vehicles. "It is a crime that can be eradicated by following a few simple steps," a police media release states. "What is important, is that those preventative measures be implemented and used consistently wherever one takes, or parks, their vehicle." Residents are being advised to: · Lock windows and doors; · Remove all valuables (including any affixed devices, such as a GPS); · Conceal and secure any valuables you may need to leave in the vehicle. Halton police responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision in the area in which one of the vehicles had fled the scene. The vehicle was located a short distance away. Police allege the driver appeared heavily intoxicated. According to a media release from police, the suspect was arrested for impaired driving and taken to the Oakville police station where breath samples tested almost four times the legal limit. "Of particular concern is that this incident occurred in a heavily populated area, in very close proximity to an elementary school, at a time w hen children were walking home and numerous school buses were in the vicinity," stated Sgt. Gus Bistas, supervisor of the Oakville District Response Team. "W hile no injuries were reported, the opportunity for tragedy was certainly present." The cause of the collision remains under investigation. The 56-year-old Oakville man has been charged with impaired driving with a blood alcohol level greater than 80 mgs and failing to comply with an undertaking. He was held for a bail hearing in court Wednesday (Dec. 7). His driver' s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for a w eek under provincial impaired driving legislation.
