w w w .in sid e H A L T O N .co m | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, D e c e m b e r 2 , 2 0 1 6 | 8 Youths are engaged in com m unity and should be included and listened to continued from p.6 In recent months, I have also had 10 high school and university students shadow me on Parliament Hill for the day to experience the day-to-day activities of MPs and to learn about various roles on legislative commit tees. They were able to observe how our government works and offer their own unique insights into issues and policies our govern ment leaders are facing every day. One of the highlights of the fall term for me was spending a full day with students and faculty at Brock University in St. Catharines. I conducted a Twitter live chat with stu dents, spoke to several political science classes, and m et with the president of Brock University to discuss a number of topics of interest to students, from electoral reform and foreign affairs to improved infrastructure and education funding. From youth council participation and student job shadowing to grade school and university visits, I am consistently impressed by the high level of genuine interest and in volvement our young people want in their communities and in their governments. And it is to our great benefit to listen to their ideas and include them on all levels as future community and government leaders. -- P am D am off is the M em ber o f P arlia ment f o r O akville North-Burlington.
