Lighthouse opens permanent headquarters in Bronte by Nathan Howes Special to the Beaver 29 | Thursday, November 24, 2016 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Lighthouse Program for Grieving Children's recent fundraising campaign was a game-changer for the agency. Launched in early 2015, the Legacy initiative collected $4 million to buy a permanent home for the Oakville-based charitable organization. Previously located at 82 Wilson St., Lighthouse provides a forum for children and families who have experienced a life-altering death. Lighthouse officially opened its new headquarters at 2522 Rebecca St. Sunday (Nov. 20). Numerous donors and community members attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, one of several events organized to celebrate the move and Legacy campaign's success. "It is the most wonderful thing in the world. We have been waiting for this day for three years. It feels overwhelming. We're exhausted, we're so grateful and incredibly excited. It's not the end of our campaign, it's the start of something new," said Britta Martini-Miles, Lighthouse executive director, on relocating. While residing in a rented space in downtown Oakville for the last 10 years allowed Lighthouse to expand, Martini-Miles said an uncertainty in managing future growth led to the move. The board of directors created a vision committee to conduct a year-long study to determine its options for acquiring here," said Martini-Miles. "While we were forming our Lighthouse Legacy campaign team to raise the funds for purchasing (a home), we had to make due with the space there and had several rented locations, so we could avoid having to turn people away."
