Halton Regional Police Service, working alongside the Town of Oakville, could utilize the Safe Driving Campaign with a heightened awareness week similarly done with young kids and driving cautiously near school zones or MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving). We need more boots on the street, not red light cameras. Red light cameras don't take away demerit points, increase car insurance rates or issue dangerous/careless driving tickets. People don't seem worried about the repercussions -- the human element is needed to make people understand it's not just a red light -- but a life they could be saving, even their own. Oakville needs to make a trip back to the safer roads it once enjoyed.
